"Tunes"
The Audio system is still under construction.
Head Unit:
Clarion DRB-5475 AM/FM CD Player.
The Clarion is mounted in the factory location. Internal amp is not used. This unit was a "Demo" that offered many features and a really great price. Since my wife will not allow me to sell the house and buy an Alpine 7909, I'm happy with the Clarion.
Signal Processors:
AudioControl EQL
Image Dynamics CS-1.X Passive Crossover Network
The EQL is mounted under the passenger seat on a drawer slider. The slider allows the EQL to be pulled out for adjustments. The Image Dynamics Crossover system is mounted under the drivers seat on a drawer slider as well.
Amplifier:
Xtant 121m and 202m
I love my Xtants! The 121m powers the sub bass, the 202m supplies the Image Dynamics Horns and Mid Bass.
Midrange & Tweeters:
Image Dynamics CD-1E V.2 Components
The horns are mounted underneath each side of the dash with the horn face approximately 2 inches rearward of the bottom edge of the dash. The 5 ¼ Mid Bass are mounted in the lower forward area of each door. A custom grill running the width of the dash covers the horn mouth.
Subwoofer:
Planet Audio P1060-4 10"
The subwoofer is installed in a 1.5 cu ft sealed enclosure. The box is constructed of 3/4" "light weight" MDF. The woofer is installed in the lower front with the magnet out, the mounting depth of the woofer required this method. I needed the box to fit behind the seats without giving up the required box volume. The box is bolted to the cab from the rear and on each side, rock solid. I used 1/4" foam between the box and the cab metal. When I can afford an Image Dynamics 10" with a chrome basket the Planet Audio will go away.
Electrical:
The
factory 105 amp alternator is plenty for my system so I left it in place. I ran
across a really good deal on 12' of "0" gauge Street Wires power
cable. I realize that "0" is way more than I need, but sometimes
a single amp system grows into a multi amp monster. The power wire goes
from the battery (Factory location) to an 80 amp Street Wires fuse and holder.
From the fuse the cable is run into plastic conduit (home stuff) and underneath
the truck to a sealed junction box near the passenger seat floor. Using ring
terminals the "0" gauge is connected to an "8" gauge wire
and on to the Xtant's.. Fusing for the Xtant's is provided by a StreetWires 3
fuse block. Grounding for the amps is provided by a "4"
gauge wire to the truck rear floor. The Audio Control is grounded via
"10" gauge at the same point, I'm noise free.
A relay
near the head unit operates the remote turn on. The trunk release on my alarm
turns on the stereo via a home made latching relay. Opening either door turns
the system off.
